Hurricane Preparedness Clinic

Prepare your pets for hurricane season at our Hurricane Preparedness Clinic on Sunday, April 12, from 8–10 a.m. at the Tallahassee Animal ShelterM. Free rabies vaccines, microchips, ID tags and hurricane kits will be available to pets of Leon County residents, helping ensure dogs and cats have proper identification and protection in the event of an emergency.

Microchip Appointments

Microchipping is available to all pet owners for $10 (cash or credit card) per pet. Appointments are available Monday - Saturday from 10:00am - 5:00pm by calling 850-891-2950, extension 0. Cats, dogs, rabbits and ferrets are welcome!

Additional Info:

  • Dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier
  • Animals must be at least 2 months old for a microchip
  • All microchips are Petlink & are pre-registered
  • Each pet is required to have a separate appointment

Spay/Neuter

If you need assistance in having your pet spayed/neutered please reach out to Be the Solution who can offer vouchers for lost cost surgeries. Please note that ASF spay/neuter vouchers are not available at this time.

Euthanasia Services

Our pets provide us with unconditional love and wonderful companionship for many years, but sadly, all pets eventually experience health, behavior, or aging issues. When this happens, the focus shifts from ensuring quality of life to ensuring a peaceful death. As a compassionate kindness, we provide humane, end-of-life euthanasia services for owned pets. This respectful, private procedure is professionally administered by our on-staff Florida Certified Euthanasia Technicians. We follow the American Veterinary Medical Association's Euthanasia Guidelines and use the same humane procedures used by private veterinary hospitals. We take the utmost pride in having the technical, medical, and soft skills necessary to provide a peaceful end-of-life experience for your beloved pet.

We offer humane euthanasia by appointment during normal business hours. Please call 850-891-2950 to schedule an appointment. We are unable to offer pick-up or in-home services for euthanasia.

Before your Appointment
We ask that you bring the following with you to the appointment:

  • A government-issued photo identification card
  • Payment (cash, check or credit card). There is a $25 fee. If your pet has bitten in the 10 days prior to the euthanasia, there is an additional $55 fee for State required rabies testing.
  • Completed Humane Euthanasia Request Form
  • Your veterinarian's diagnosis to confirm the euthanasia reason. If one is not provided or we cannot reach them via phone, Tallahassee Animal Services retains the right to deny the euthanasia request.

What to Expect at Your Appointment
When you arrive, we'll review your paperwork and complete the check-in. Our staff will explain the euthanasia process based on your interest and comfort level. Please feel free to ask any questions to help you feel as comfortable as possible. Once you are ready and have said goodbye, our compassionate technicians will escort your pet to our private euthanasia suite for the procedure. There is nothing more for you to do at this point and you may head home.

Aftercare Services
We provide communal cremation where your pet is cremated alongside other pets.

If you would like to be present for your pet's euthanasia, would like in-home euthanasia, or would like to have other after care arrangements, please reach out to your family veterinarian for assistance. Many local veterinarians offer additional end-of-life services that we are unable to offer. General Clinic Information

  • How should I bring my pets to the clinic?
    • For the safety of your pets and everyone at the clinic, please bring cats in individual carriers and dogs on leashes.  Ensure that your dog's collar is properly tightened so that it cannot slip off over their head.
  • Is there parking available?
    • Yes, although parking is limited at the shelter.  You may be directed to park next door at the Red Cross.
  • Do I need to live in Leon County to participate?
    • Yes, this clinic is for Leon County residents only.
  • How long is the wait?
    • Since we are first-come, first-served, the wait times can vary. Please come withal bit of patience and rest assured we will see your pet.

Pet Eligibility and Requirements

  • What types of animals do you provide services for?
    • We provide rabies vaccinations and microchips for dogs and cats.
  • Can I bring my foster animal to get a rabies vaccine?
    • No. This clinic is for owned pets, not for rescue groups or foster animals.
  • Can I bring my feral cat in a trap?
    • We will make every attempt to help vaccinate your feral cat, but we cannot guarantee that we'll be able to do so. We want to make sure it is safe for the cat, the staff, and our volunteers.  This clinic is not for feral cat rescue groups.
  • My pet may be pregnant. Can she still get vaccinated and microchipped?
    • For the safety of your pet and her unborn litter, we cannot administer rabies vaccinations to pregnant animals. However, we can still provide microchipping services.
  • Can I send my pets with a friend or family member?
    • The pet’s legal owner must be present to sign the necessary consent forms for vaccinations and microchipping. This ensures we have accurate records and owner authorization.

What to Bring

  • What do I need to bring?
    • Please bring your pet's previous rabies vaccination certificate if available. This allows us to administer a 3-year rabies vaccine, if applicable. Rabies tags are not valid substitutes for the certificate.
    • Please also bring a form of identification: a driver's license or government-issued ID.

Services Provided

  • What type of microchip do you use?
    • We use Petlink microchips. They are universal and can be read by most scanners.
  • Will my pet be able to get a tag with its microchip information?
    • Yes, the microchip will be registered to you and you’ll receive information on how to update your pet’s information. You’ll also receive a microchip tag.
  • Do you provide other vaccines or veterinary services?
    • Our clinic focuses on providing free rabies vaccinations and microchips. For other necessary vaccinations, wellness exams, nail trims, or veterinary services, please contact your local veterinarian.
  • Can you give me sedation/tranquilizer drugs for my pet before bringing them to the clinic?
    • We are unable to provide sedation or tranquilizer drugs. Please consult your family veterinarian for assistance.

Pet Comfort and Assistance

  • My pet is nervous around other people or animals. Can you help?
    • We understand that some pets experience anxiety in new environments. Our team is Fear Free Certified and experienced in handling pets with varying comfort levels.  We will do our best to create a safe and calm experience. Please let us know if your pet has any specific needs or concerns.
  • I may need assistance at the clinic. Can you help?
    • We'll have volunteers on hand that can help get pets out of cars, help with paperwork, and help you get your pet back to your car. If you need specific assistance, please call before the clinic to see if we can help (850.891.2950).
  • What happens if my pet has a reaction to the vaccine or microchip?
    • Though rare, reactions can happen. Mild symptoms, such as swelling, pain at the injection site, and slight lethargy, typically resolve within 24 hours. Please seek veterinary care immediately if you notice severe swelling, hives, breathing issues, vomiting, or any other cause for concern. Any reaction-related medical costs are the owner's responsibility.
